Journey of Baldness, Stage Three:
Delusion
In Stage Three, the balding guy has realized he’s losing
his hair. When he finds himself ankle-deep in shower water,
he knows what’s plugging the drain. He believes firmly,
however, in spite of the evidence, that through the magic of
some lotion, shampoo, exercise or ritual that his hair will
grow back. In his mind, baldness is a function of stress or
diet, or maybe the scalp just needs a little stimulation. He
says, with a smile, "I’m using a really good natural-bristle
brush. This bald spot’ll clear right up." Right, buddy
– it’s time for Stage Four.
